Assembly Democrats Kill Gun Safety Legislation

SACRAMENTO, Calif., April 3, 2024 – This week the Assembly Public Safety Committee rejected AB 3037 (Essayli) which would have restored the firearm sentencing enhancement for criminals who use a firearm in the commission of a felony.

“I am disgusted by Democrat politicians who pretend to care about stopping gun violence, but refuse to punish the criminals who use guns to commit horrific crimes. As a former prosecutor I know that gun violence has exploded in California because criminals are not being held behind bars as a result of soft-on-crime policies out of Sacramento. That’s why I authored AB 3037 to restore the firearm sentencing enhancement to lock up any criminal who dares to use a firearm to commit a crime.” Assemblyman Essayli remarked.

“However, Democrats on the Assembly Public Safety Committee hide behind front organizations like Moms Demand Action to protect criminals rather than victims. It is shameful — Californians deserve better.” Assemblyman Essayli added.
