The PRIDE flag has been flying each PRIDE month since 2021. On February 7, 2023, the City Council ended that practice. A rainbow flag will no longer be flown each spring at Huntington Beach City Hall in honor of Pride Month.

"NO MASK AND NO VACCINE MANDATE CITY"

On October 3, 2023, a resolution was adopted by the conservative majority of the Huntington Beach City Council declaring that mask and vaccine mandates are banned within city jurisdiction, with exceptions for those who test positive for COVID-19. HUNTINGTON BEACH CITY COUNCIL VOTES DOWN ITEM SEEKING TRANSPARENCY IN CHILDREN'S BOOK RESTRICTIONS

The conservative council majority passed Resolution 2023-41 last October on a 4-3 vote. The resolution seeks to stop children’s access to books and materials that contain “any content of a sexual nature.” Additionally, it sets up a yet-to-be-formed parental advisory board of up to 21 people to review and approve future books before they are brought into the library.

An agenda item seeking transparency and detailed reporting, brought forth by Councilwoman Natalie Moser, was shot down at Tuesday night’s City Council meeting.

HUNTINGTON BEACH HAS A VOTER ID LAW ON THE BALLOT

Should voters be required to show an ID? One California city is asking its citizens to decide.
(Fresno Bee file)

Huntington Beach has put a measure on their ballot to allow for voter ID. Measure A’s language is such that the city “may” implement the changes starting with 2026 municipal elections. Along with voter ID, the new election changes would also include up to 20 ADA-compliant voting locations, as well as city-monitored drop boxes.

Sacramento is watching! In September, California Atty. General Rob Bonta and Secretary of State Shirley Weber sent a letter warning Huntington Beach that requiring voter ID in municipal elections violates state law.(LA Times) BY MATT SZABO STAFF WRITER  FEB. 14, 2024 5:23 PM PT
