CFRW Passes Resolutions on Fentanyl and Human Trafficking

The California Federation of Republican Women passed two resolutions against fentanyl and human trafficking.

CALIFORNIA FEDERATION OF REPUBLICAN WOMEN RESOLUTION AGAINST FENTANYL

WHEREAS, Fentanyl, which was originally developed in Belgium in the 1960’s as an opioid to relieve chronic pain, has become a nationwide crisis, and

WHEREAS, Fentanyl is causing massive destruction to communities all across the United States, and

WHEREAS, 107,000 Americans overdosed last year and two-thirds of that figure are estimated to be caused by Fentanyl, and

WHEREAS, Fentanyl, a synthetic opioid, is unique in its ability to cause overdoses, as just 2mg of Fentanyl is enough to cause an overdose, roughly the same as a shake of salt, and

WHEREAS, Fentanyl, due to its incredibly high potency, as well as its chemical makeup, is incredibly affordable and, unfortunately for U.S. border security, easy to traffic, and

WHEREAS, Fentanyl is approximately 100 times more potent than morphine and 50 times more potent than heroin as an analgesic, and

WHEREAS, in fiscal year 2023 alone, CBP has seized over 20,000 pounds of Fentanyl coming across the Southwest Border – enough to kill over 4.6 billion people, and

WHEREAS, Fentanyl mixed with Xylazine is an emerging threat in the U.S., because Xylazine, which is an animal tranquilizer, can be life-threatening and is especially dangerous when combined with opioids like Fentanyl, and

WHEREAS, internationally, the United States needs to continue to bolster strong relations with Mexico in order to protect lives on both sides of the Southern Border, and

THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED that the California Federation of Republican Women firmly demand that the Biden Administration close the Southern Border of the United States now to stop the massive influx of deadly Fentanyl, and to protect the lives of American citizens. Adopted by the California Federation of Republican Women at the 43rd Biennial Convention on October 14th, 2023 at Sacramento, California.

CALIFORNIA FEDERATION OF REPUBLICAN WOMEN RESOLUTION AGAINST HUMAN TRAFFICKING

WHEREAS, human trafficking is the 2nd largest illicit industry in the U.S., 2nd only to the drug trade, and

WHEREAS, California consistently ranks number one in the nation in the number of human trafficking cases reported to the National Human Trafficking Hotline, and

WHEREAS, human trafficking is a form of modern-day slavery, in which human beings are controlled and exploited for profit, and

WHEREAS, online advertising has helped traffickers recruit victims and customers in larger numbers, and

WHEREAS, children as young as 11 and 12 years old are exploited by traffickers who force them to sell their bodies for the trafficker’s financial gain, and

WHEREAS, drugs are bought and sold in one single transaction; human beings, however, can be sold over and over again, and some victims report being forced to engage in commercial sex with up to fifty “clients” in a single day, and

WHEREAS, In December, 2022, California Senator Shannon Grove of Bakersfield introduced Senate Bill 14, which would include sex trafficking of a minor in the list of crimes that are defined as serious under California law, making the crime a strike under the Three Strikes law. On September 25, 2023, Governor Newsom signed SB14 into law. This will help strengthen protections for thousands of sex trafficking victims, and

WHEREAS, the actual number of illegal immigrant children, who have entered the United States illegally at our southern border, is unknown, and they are unaccounted for and extremely vulnerable to human trafficking, and

THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED that the California Federation of Republican Women encourage action and unity with like-minded entities – regardless of political party – to relentlessly pursue the fight against human trafficking. Adopted by the California Federation of Republican Women at the 43rd Biennial Convention on October 14, 2023 at Sacramento, California.
